Traditional printing creates a flat image. The image may be printed on something like canvas, which has a texture of its own, but the actual printed image does not have any depth. There are several ways to create an optical illusion of depth, but if you run your fingers over the print, you can’t feel the bumps or depth of the original subject.
Our process is different. We use a special printer that puts down specific layers of acrylic to create a physical dimension to the final prints. You can close your eyes and feel the paint strokes, or the texture of a leaf.
At JOAK, we can produce a digital image from flat artwork, then we create a special file to sculpt the depth created during the printing process. We create this file by hand to be true to the intention of the original artwork. If requested, we can discuss different options so the final print reflects you as the artist.
